HTC have started rolling out their (much anticipated) updated HTC Hero ROM on their support sites. When this is available on the UK site, will it be possible to use it to upgrade the G2? Will T-Mobile UK be providing the ROM separately? Or will it the phone just magically upgrade via OTA? Looking forward to the touted speed improvements, would very much like to know when I'll be able to get them on my G2. Thanks Ed UPDATE: Skip to page 181 for download link |

Hey,
If it does the same as the G1 did with an update, which I very much assume it does, then it will perform the update OTA (Over the air). Not sure when this will happen though unfortunatly :/ |

According to T-Mobile there is no future support for this handset, so guess who is packing his HTC Hero up in it's original packaging and telling T-Mobile where to go.
I've "used" a new rom sim free Hero and my own dog Hero and they are different phones now! |

It seems odd that T-mobile would not release the new ROM, as software updates are core to smartphone type products nowadays....Plus with the G2 being T mobiles main attraction at the moment it would be very unwise of them not to release it.
Anyone else heard anything regarding updates? |

I really hope you're wrong; I think that would be a massive mistake on their part.
Do T-Mobile respond to these topics officially? Or is it just users. Attempting to elicit a response on Twitter also.... here's hoping. |

I wouldn't expect that customer services would know much about the g2 update. i imagine it'll be like the G1 cupcake update and will be OTA and sent out by google in waves and not by tmobile, hence tmobile would not be able to tell you when/if it will be delivered...
If anyone does receive the update, can you post the results here? cheers |

But can google distribute this particular update? We're taking about HTC's revised ROM with their proprietary Sense-UI TouchFlow malarky - as this is not a Google Experience phone, would Google be delivering the update (as much as I'd like that to be true)?
What would be nice now would be someone from T-Mobile to wade in and let us know the company's position - good or bad - it would stop the rumour mill and all of this speculation! Having to infer a company's policy from various user experiences is not a good way to do business. |

HTC are experimenting with OTA updates, which kinda answers the question regarding google OTA. MoDaCo have some screenshots if you're interested.
Would post a link but think that just gets my post blocked. |

My *** this is getting into a joke.
See I don't have a problem with this waiting, as i come from a programming world, i understand things have to be tested properly and fix before being realised other wise realsing buggy software just causes too much greaf. But t-mobile and your modirators you guy's have's have provided a SHOOCKING service. You have just shown your true colours by not providing an information for your customers or daily updates at what is going on with the testing for the ROM Updates, and to have set this post as a soloution found is WRONG. If this was the case why on earth are we up to page 97??? I live right next you your UK Head quaters and i really feel like giving some one a right bolocking about the way you guy's have gone about this problem. Have you guys a t-mob considered why the Iphone on O2 is doing to well??? THERE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS OF THE HIGHEST LEVEL!!!!!! please sort it out there wise i'm truly canceling my contract. |

T-mobile arrogance is nothing short of amazing. However, I have received an e-mail from HTC that honestly matches their arrogance. As a result of the answers from both of them I will never ever purchase a t-mobile phone again nor a HTC phone. This is the text I received from them.
I am sorry that you are unhappy with the situation, but this is what happens when buying a network branded phone. We released the ROM to T-Mobile weeks ago (before we released it on our website) and they had some issues while testing it ( I do not know the details, we are simply not told), and so it has been delayed. We have been working with T-mobile to fix the issue they reported as quickly as possible to get the ROM released but in the end, would you rather have a ROM that had problems, or wait a few extra weeks to make sure that everything is as it should be on your expensive new phone? I suggest that in future you buy whichever handset you choose SIm Free, as if you buy a network branded device of any make, you will have the exact same issue, as you can see from all the internet forums discussing upgrading network branded Nokias amd Ericssons... So as you can see the arrogance of these companies is nothing short of stupendous! |
