We've developed a system called Content Lock, which helps prevent children from accessing 18-rated material. Content Lock is one of the industry's most advanced filtering tools, and all of our mobiles, USB modems and data cards are sold with it already applied, free of charge.
Content Lock prevents access to unmoderated content, 18-rated material from the internet, t-zones (our downloads portal) and third-party shortcodes.
Types of websites we prevent access to include:
Content is classified as '18-rated' or 'unclassified' against a framework developed by the Independent Mobile Classification Body.
Tip: Your child can also receive content directly from other people that the network can't filter. You should discuss with your child the types of content you'd be unhappy for them to receive or share with others.
Children are at high risk of coming into contact with inappropriate content when they're given an unlocked second-hand phone. If you own an unlocked T-Mobile phone, it's your responsibility to make sure it's relocked before you give it to a child.
Content Lock is automatically applied to all new pay as you go and pay monthly mobiles. However, you can ask to have Content Lock removed if you can prove that you're over 18.
| Content Lock level | What it does | How to get it (Pay monthly) |
How to get it (Pay as you go) |
|---|---|---|---|
| ON (strict) | Blocks 18-rated content and user-generated sites such as YouTube |
|
|
| Moderate | Blocks 18-rated content, but allows user-generated sites such as Youtube |
|
|
| OFF (unfiltered) | Allows access to the entire internet including adult sites. Note: we still block access to any sites showing illegal content |

*A valid credit card is required. If Content Lock is turned off by a credit card, a £2 charge is applied and then recredited immediately. The transaction will appear on the card holder's next credit card statement as 'Content Lock Removed'.
